Joining TA Cube!
RESISTANCE IS FUTILE!

Joining TA Cube!

Why should I join TA Cube?

Well, frankly, because TA Cube is FUN! We are the Number One mini team that just happens to be part of the rockinest major team in all the world! TA Cube, which is part of Team AnandTech opens up a major can of whoop ass on the competition! Team AnandTech does the same! We, and Team AnandTech, came to the party to win! You can be a part of that.

Now, aside from the competition, the fun and the opportunity to be part of the best, the members of the team are damned cool too! We come from all walks of life, all geographical locations and all backgrounds. From the highschool student to the seasoned veteran we're all here, dedicated to the goal of winning and having fun.

Oh, and did I mention the stats? You like statistics? Well, if you're a stats junkie like I am, you'll think you just died and went to Heaven. We have project stats, team stats, individual stats, milestone maker stats, and Team AnandTech even has it's own big time stats generating Web Site!

Oh yeah, and you get your own page here at TACube.com!

There are restrictions.

The only reason for the existence of TA Cube is to help grow Team AnandTech; to help to make TA the biggest, baddest DC mofo on the block. This means NEW blood and NEW assimilations. Toward that end, TA Cube has implemented some guidelines for membership.

TA Cube will accept only members who are not already established participants for Team AnandTech. "Established" will be defined as being involved in one of the projects for 30 days or more as part of Team Anandtech. Under 30 days, members are still getting a feel for the team and deciding which direction that they'd like to move.

There will be two exceptions to this:

1. If an individual would otherwise leave Team AnandTech altogether, without the opportunity to join a mini team, and they have decided that TA Cube is the mini they would like to join, then they would be welcomed.

2. If an individual had previously been part of Team AnandTech for a period exceeding the 30 days, but had subsequently left the team, and now wished to return, they would also be welcomed.

I agree, you guys are cool! How do I join?

Welcome aboard! If you are new to distributed computing, the first thing you need to do is read through the Team AnandTech FAQs. This will give you all the details about getting started with one the projects. It's actually very simple, and takes very little effort. Or, to make it even easier, you can simply download and install one of the TA Cube Pre-configured disks.

As you can see by reading through the materials, Distributed Computing projects identify participants by eMail address. This is entered as part of the client configuration. After you've downloaded a client, installed and are ready to configure, simply use the eMail address one@tacube.com for SETI, or rc5@tacube.com for RC5, and you will automatically become a member of TA Cube, and Team AnandTech. No need to go thru the "join team" procedure. Additional setup info can be found here.

NOTE: While our main thrust for TA Cube is now Seti@Home, we will continue to support those who would rather do RC5.

If you run in to anything you can't figure out, not to worry! We have the most helpful group of people on the web, bar none! Just drop by the Distributed Computing Forum and you'll have all the answers, and a lot of smiles!!!! You can also eMail ONE, and he'll be glad to help out. ONE, aka Russ, is the co-founder of TA Cube, and is the owner of CompuCheap

After you've got the project installed and working away, we'll need to get your page setup. Take a look at the page Template to get an idea of the info that we need. If you know a little html, you can just use the template and fill in the info. Or, just list the info and send it on in. Either way, eMail it to ONE and it'll get added right away!

Finally, this caveat. We, at TA Cube wish to uphold the highest of ethical standards in all things. Please do not ask for ANY form of recompense for joining the group. It is a volunteer project, and we will not compromise our ethics simply to increase membership. And, DO NOT install a project on any machine for which you do not have explicit permission. Not only is the practice unethical, it is a blatant violation of the rules for any of the contests.

Oh, and in case I forgot to say it, welcome aboard!
